How can I join?
Easy! Just click here and come out to our practices every Saturday on the Quad at UVic. We always welcome new members and will teach you what you need to know so you can jump right in to the wonderful world of Quidditch.
Do I need to be in shape?
Not at all! Quidditch is a sport that anyone can play. We have everything from rugby players, to potter heads. If your goal is to get in shape, Quidditch is definitely a good place to get moving. We also have scheduled conditioning for cardio and strength! Check out the calendar for more on that.
Is there a men's and women's team?
Nope! Quidditch is a co-ed sport and must always have at least two players of either gender on the field at once.
Do you travel?
You bet! In November of 2011, we travelled to New York City to compete in Quidditch World Cup V. It was a very rewarding experience. Since then, we have participated in tournaments in Vancouver and down in Washington. Teams also travel to the island occasionally to play us too.
Does it cost anything to join?
Nope! It's completely free. However, the team will not pay for travel to and from tournaments. We do hold fundraisers to try and subsidize the costs for everyone though.
What positions are there?
Chaser: Chasers handle the Quaffle (a slightly deflated volleyball) and try to score on the opponents hoops. Each goal is worth 10 points.
Keeper: A Keeper acts as a teams goalie. The Keeper defends his/her team's hoops but can also play offensively the same as a chaser.
Beater: Beaters handle bludgers (slightly deflated dodgeball). There are three bludgers in play during a game. If a bludger thrown by the opposing team hits you, then you must dismount your broom and return to your hoops before remounting and getting back into play.
Seeker: Seekers chase after the snitch (The snitch is a person dressed in hello with a tennis ball in a sock hanging from their waistband. Upon catching the snitch, the seeker's team is awarded 30 points and the match is over.
Will I make friends?
That is up to you! We are all pretty close and are sure to put on lots of team bonding events such as movie nights, study nights, and of course, parties. We all treat each other with respect and consider our club the Quidditch Family.
